RESOLUTION

RESOLUTION COUNCIL SERIES NO. C-1130

COUNCIL SPONSOR: BRISTER/PRESIDENT     PROVIDED BY: FINANCE DEPARTMENT

A RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT ST. TAMMANY PARISH GOVERNMENT'S APPLICATION FOR ASSISTANCE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION'S ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING THE THOMPSON ROAD BIKE PATH CONNECTING THE TAMMANY TRACE WITH AREA SUBDIVISIONS.

    WHEREAS, St. Tammany Parish Government (“STP”) is committed to the construction of and enhancements to the Tammany Trace (“Trace”) as a Recreation and Transportation Corridor;

    WHEREAS, many heavily populated subdivisions exist along Thompson Road (LA Hwy 433), and the residents have expressed a desire for safe passage to the Tammany Trace.

    WHEREAS, Thompson Road is heavily traveled by vehicles belonging to residents and other travelers because of its direct route to schools and businesses that bypasses congested roads and highways.

    WHEREAS, bicyclists and joggers on Thompson Road are at risk due to the narrowness of the highway and the high volume of traffic that it experiences.

    WHEREAS, STP has enough right-of-way along Thompson Road to construct a grade separated path, STP will maintain the path, and the Tammany Trace Foundation will contribute the cash local match required by the Enhancement Program.

    THE PARISH OF ST. TAMMANY HEREBY RESOLVES to support STP's application for assistance from the Department of Transportation's Enhancement Program to construct the Thompson Road Bike Path.
